2010: Clothing and gifts to orphanages

Golden Colombia Foundation organized a collection of Norwegian clothes and gifts to be given to underprivileged children in Colombia. Specifically, many Norwegian handicrafts were donated such as home knitted socks and other garments that are very useful here in the Andes! In June, children at the Nina Maria orphanage located in the town of Chia, just outside of Bogotá received gifts (see video), and in December gifts were given to recently returned IDP's in the municipality of San Carlos in Antioquia as well as children at the orphanage Los Pisingos in Bogotá. See the photos here

Heartfelt thanks to all who have contributed!

2009:  School Uniforms and equipment

The lack of family finances to purchase school uniforms and school supplies may be reason enough that children do not receive schooling in the poorest neighborhoods of Bogota. As a result of Golden Colombia’s coffee subscription program, an entire class at the Foundation Pies Descalzos School in Cazuca received the necessary supplies to maintain their education.

2008: Course for single mothers

The impoverished area Altos de Cazuca where Pies Descalzos School is located consists largely of single mother families. In this area the conditions are growing worse and worse for the children, as annually tens of thousands new IDPs from all parts of the country arrive, largely as a result of the paramilitaries, guerillas, and drug culture that exists in Colombia.

To put the single mothers in a better position to raise the children in these difficult circumstances Foundation Pies Descalzos arranged the course ‘Creciendo an Amor’ (Growing up in love) to help educate the mothers. The course was partly sponsored by Golden Colombia Foundation. See photos from one of the workshops here..

2007: School for the displaced for the population in Bogotá

The Golden Colombia Foundation supported the school Pies Descalzos Foundation (established by Shakira) in Altos de Cazucá, one of Bogotá's poorest neighborhoods. In this neighborhood there are thousands of children who have never received proper education. The Golden Colombia Foundation financed two classes for children ages 10-13 who then had the opportunity to complete their first six years of schooling (the equivalent of primary school) in a one year intensive course. Those who wished to continue their education also gained the opportunity to complete junior high school (Secondary school). This project was the first of its kind in Bogotá, however in other parts of Colombia similiar programs had been carried out successfully. Children who receive this opportunity are usually very motivated to complete their initial year, and then continue their education at the secondary level. They also tend to become leaders and role models for other children with similiar backrounds. Without any scholing at all, life has little to offer but extreme poverty or crime for these children.
