Golden Colombia

The Golden Colombia Foundation is an independent Norwegian nonprofit organization established in 2006. The Golden Colombia Foundation's mission is to both provide positive information about Colombia in the Scandinavian countries and to contribute to social projects in the country. Colombia is undoubtedly one of the world's most fascinating countries. It's spectacular scenery, buzzing culture and gastronomic delights are "world class". Additionally the life-affirming and joyful spirit of the Colombian people contributes not only to their art, music and literature but also makes them statistically amongst the happiest people in the world.

Unfortunately, many Norwegians and other Europeans perceive Colombia as dangerous for tourists without understanding the magnificent travel opportunities that the country can offer. Prejudice against the country has not only impacted tourism but has historically inhibited Colombian exports and reduced foreign investment. This has prevented Colombia's full emergence into the global economy and has hindered overall economic growth that is essential to lift the millions out of poverty.

While the past several years has seen a spike in Colombia's growth, a better life for Colombia's poor requires more than economic growth such as a more social distribution policy, a strengthened focus on healthcare and education and a democracy free of corruption. The Golden Colombia Foundation is in regular contact with Colombian intellectuals, politicians , artists and organizations to convey ideas and inspiration from the Nordic social modal which may be useful in the design of a Colombia with an improved quality of life for all. The Foundation has also provided financial support to social projects in the country.

A further challenge for Colombia is the decades-long struggle against the Mafia's cocaine production which accounts for half of the world's consumption of the drug. The solution to this problem lies in reducing consumption in wealthy nations. The Golden Colombia Foundation has initiated an information campaign Cocaine.noin Norway which included support from the United Nations (UNODC) and the Norweigian Health Directorate.
