The Serrana area is the southwest (Nariño and Cauca) and is known as the Nudo de los Pastos (knot of pasture) due to its rugged geography. It is the origin of the three mountain ranges that crosses the country from south to north. It is notable for having the largest indigenous populations in the country and to preserve indigenous traditions in other areas were lost after the Spanish colonization.
The Opita area is bounded by the departments of Huila and a part of Tolima. It is noted for its abundant production of rice and is a source of Andean folklore Colombiano. The Opita peopleare traditional, conservative and a strong conception of the family. The Opita musical spirit is manifested in the events held around the folklore, cultural and academical programs.
The Valluna area or Valle del Cauca reflects the pacific coast spirit with which borders on its western side. Its inhabitants are cheerful, warm and coastal spirit. By climatic and historical conditions it seems that the Valle del Cauca has more affinity with the temperament of the Pacific coast to the Andes. It is the center of production of sugarcane, which is considered more stable cultivation throughout the year in the country. It is also noted for its beautiful women and the affinity they have with salsa music.
Finally, the coffee region or Paisa (as has been called) is formed by the departments of Quindio, Risaralda, Caldas and Antioquia. It is an area in which the mixing was given very quickly, therefore, the population had developed very different from other parts of the country. Paisas are entrepreneurs and conservative, their models are based on the glorification of peasant labor in the wake of prominence who have had small producers in coffee production. The area is fertile, undulating landscape and heavy vegetation. The beauty and uniqueness of their idiosyncrasies has earned the title awarded by UNESCO as World Heritage.
