The Amazon Jungle is widely recognised as the most wonderful jungle on the face of the planet, the zone with the most biodiversity in the world and an unparalleled region with a wealth of the most spectacular animal species.
The Colombian Amazon region is the home of truly beautiful animals such as the pink dolphin and the howler monkey, the spider monkey and the boas, animals that abound in the region. Besides being mainly a tropical humid forest, there are also impressive, lonely mountains like the Mavicure and Chibiriquete called 'tepuy' (mansions of the gods), which are the oldest vertical structures on the planet.
Half of the territory is occupied by indigenous reservations, and more than 70 different indigenous groups coexist in the vast territory, making a total of more than one million people. Here you can listen to stories as wonderful as that of Yurupari, a beautiful god who was murdered by Yupana, jealous of his beauty. However, man transformed the former into a palm tree and later into instrument, which was played only by women. Those were epochs when the men were dealing with the chores of the house, while the women were outside providing the necessary goods for survival.
Not only is it possible to enjoy these legends, but you can also behold the astonishing vision of these cosmogonies, not only in the customs, but also in the body paintings of the aborigines done with vegetable dyes, as well as in the paintings of the 'malocas' (houses). Jacanamijoy, an indigenous painter who by combining modern painting techniques with an aboriginal understanding of life, submerges the observer in an alternative reality: organic and in motion, exploring perception and senses in multicolored lines.
But if it is not enough to enter this oneiric world, you can also be delighted by the music and dance festivals with different tribes interacting peacefully, sharing their beliefs in the language of art, and celebrating the existence of human life on earth. But be careful, since it is during these holidays that, according to legend, the pink dolphin transforms into a handsome man (wearing a hat to hide the blowhole) going on land to seduce and impregnate the women.
